A new study looked at the U.S. cities with the highest crime rates – and how much it’s costing residents. Moneygeek used FBI crime data for both violent crime and property crime in over 1,300 U.S. cities and towns, then ranked them by per capita cost. Topping the list among large cities was Birmingham, AL, with a per capita cost of $11,392. New Orleans, St. Louis, Detroit, and Memphis rounded out the top five. Among small towns, Monroe, Louisiana was at the top with a cost of $8,902 – followed by Petersburg, VA, Saginaw, MI, Florence, SC, and Alexandria, LA.
