King Solomon Baptist Church is hosting its Annual MLK Motorcade TODAY starting at 10am in West Louisville. Local groups, churches, officials will travel in the motorcade and end up at the church for a ceremony. Governor Andy Beshear will speak. The motorcade starts lining up at 9:30 a.m. at the Kroger Parking Lot on 28th and Broadway. There will be a spaghetti lunch at 1:30 p.m. at the church as well.

The Muhammad Ali Center is hosting a FREE DAY of learning and celebration in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.  and his legacy. MLK’s infamous “I Have a Dream” speech will be shown at the top of each hour beginning at noon! This will be followed by a panel of seven Muhammad Ali Center Council of Students, that will speak on carrying forward Dr. King’s Dream and Muhammad Ali’s legacy in a forum hosted by the MAC. Prior to the doors opening for the “I Have a Dream” speech, The American Red Cross is hosting a Blood Drive at The Muhammad Ali Center beginning at 11am. Below is the full schedule of the Muhammad Ali Center MLK Schedule:

  • 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. – American Red Cross Blood Drive

  • 11:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. – FREE admission to the Muhammad Ali Center

  • 12 p.m. – First I Have a Dream screening, followed by MACCS panel

  • 1-4 p.m. – Hourly screenings of I Have a Dream speech

 

The Louisville Urban League & Kentucky State University are having their Annual Indoor Invitational Classic, hosted at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center starting at 10am today. What: LUL/KSU HBCU INDOOR CLASSIC

When: Monday, January 16, 10:00 AM

Where: Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center

Who: This meet will feature teams from Historically Black Colleges and Universities from across the country. We are excited to have Tennessee State University, Lane College, Morehouse College, Philander Smith College, Allen University SC, LeMoyne-Owen College, Kentucky State University, Harris-Stowe State University, Delaware State University, and Bluefield State University, all participating! Dj John Q will be in the building! MELANnaire Marketplace vendors will be there! Tickets can be purchased online.
In case you’re wondering what is opened or closed closed for MLK Day:
Non-Essential Government Offices such as the Department of Motor Vehicles, public libraries and city offices — will be closed. State and federal courthouses will also be closed. Postal Services such as The United States Postal Service will be closed Monday, so there will be no regular mail deliveries. Other delivery services — including United Parcel Service and FedEx will be operating — FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will have modified services.
