Morris Day Opens Up About Prince’s Ego Tripping, Tensions on Set of ‘Purple Rain’ Morris Day of The Time is releasing a new book, On Time: A Princely Life in Funk. In the book he discusses that sometimes if felt like Prince was his rival off-screen just as much as he was on-screen. He talks about his personal issues with cocaine and tensions on the set of Purple Rain. He tells a story about showing up late to the set of Purple Rain and Prince exploding on him and shoving him. The two men had to be separated by Prince’s bodyguard and the drummer of The Time. He talks about The Time being controlled and assembled by Prince.
