Ruth Carter Gets Historic Oscars Win
Last night Ruth Carter won the Best Costume Design Academy Award for her work on Black Panther and she also made history by becoming the first black person to win the category.
HISTORY MADE. Ruth E. Carter takes home Best Costume Design for her stunning work on Black Panther, making her the first African-American woman to take home an Oscar in this category.
This is long overdue but so well-deserved.

During her acceptance speech, Ruth thanked Spike Lee for giving her a start in the business and then she said, “Marvel may have created the first black superhero, but through costume design, we turned him into an African king.”

It was Carter’s designs that made Wakanda come to life. She did all the designs for the film from T’Challa’s ceremonial wardrobe to the red armor worn by the Dora Milaje.
