Tyler Perry Explains Why Madea’s Making A Comeback

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tyler Perry explains why he’s bringing the legendary character back despite claiming he was retiring the suit after his release of A Madea Family Funeral in 2019. Citing the current polarization in the world as his inspiration, this will almost certainly be a different caliber of comedy to his most recent release; Don’t Look Up, that featured the likes of our darling J-Law and Seth Rogen.

Bringing the character from 1999 to now, Perry told EW, “I was looking at the state of the world and how polarized it is… nobody’s laughing. Nobody’s getting the chance to belly-laugh anymore. And I’m like, ‘What tool do I have in my arsenal that can bring that kind of laughter.”

Well he didn’t have to look very far did he?

“A Madea Homecoming” will be on Netflix on February 25. Perry even managed to toss in a small tease in his EW piece which you can read in full here, adding that there will be an LGBTQ tie in adding; “How long does it have to be before you understand something?” unafraid to push the right buttons.
