Marvin Gaye sang in his father’s church way before signing to Motown records. He recorded songs like, “What’s Going On”, “Let’s Get It On,” “Sexual Healing” and “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.” Gaye was killed in 1984 during a domestic dispute with his father.

Gaye was born Marvin Pentz Gaye, Jr., also known as the “Prince of Soul,” in Washington, D.C., on April 2nd, 1939.
