Woman Loses Job after Racist Confrontation with Ex-Marvel Editor A former Marvel Comics editor was threatened by a woman in what’s being called a racial incident — because he asked her to put her dog on a leash. The incident, which involved comic book editor Christian Cooper, reportedly occurred Monday in New York’s Central Park. In a video that’s gone viral, Cooper asks the woman to abide by the park’s rules and put her dog on a leash. The woman responds by threatening to call the police and tell them “an African-American man is threatening my life.” She then follows through on the threat, referring to Cooper’s race numerous times during the call. The clip, which was posted on Twitter by Cooper’s sister, has been viewed more than 12 million times. While Cooper made it through the confrontation unscathed, the same can’t be said for the woman, whose last name also happens to be Cooper. On Tuesday, Amy Cooper’s employer, investment firm Franklin Templeton, revealed it has “made the decision to terminate the employee involved, effective immediately.” A company spokesman added, “We do not tolerate racism of any kind at Franklin Templeton.” Plus, Avandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue Inc. has announced that after being pressured, Amy Cooper has “voluntarily surrendered the dog in question to our rescue while this matter is being addressed.” Are you surprised when you hear that racism still exists in this country? Can this woman be charged with a crime?
